Evasion is what I would call the lynch pin to the entire issue. I think the most preferable way to go regarding Corvette spam is to remove their overloaded kit, all of which centers around a single advantage: The fact they can avoid everything. What is the root of the problem with Corvettes, and how can we fix them, without breaking some other system? I don't think there's anyone who would argue that Corvette spam isn't a problem, or the fact that it's even a remotely viable option isn't an issue, so what are some ideas and solutions to what might be done? Here are a few of my own. Now with the advent of Le Guin, and the introduction of special Alloys and Volatile Motes, which I can assume larger ships probably cost more of, it has me concerned that spamming the cheaper Corvettes is now going to be even more appealing. I entered the Contingency home system with a fleet of 120 Corvettes, and at the end only lost 6. How could this make it past play-testing?" What we have here is a Dominate Strategy in a game proclaiming to be a Grand Strategy Game, and I'll be blunt, I find that unacceptable. But I look at the above and think, "This doesn't even work on paper. Apparently Corvettes have always been broken, and used to be even better than they are now. And this is only since I've been playing. I can't think of any conceivable reason why a single kind of ship gets to be highly evasive, cheap, fast, have a low build time, low upkeep cost, only take a single fleet command point, and powerful (gets to carry the same missiles as Battleships). I love it, there's so much variety as far as scenarios and play-styles go but one glaring issue I've noticed (and it seems others have noticed as well) that really just spoils the experience for me, is that Corvettes are totally broken. I've been playing Stellaris since earlier this year, about around the time Apocalypse was released. Alright, I'm trying to find out other peoples thoughts on this problem and my own.
